The Problem with Rivers
Words & Music by Jason Chiron
Am Our lives are like G rivers, they F flow north and south G
We go to the source and we go to the mouth
We go to the heart and we go to the tributaries now
Our lives are like rivers, they flow east and west
Rambling and ambling on some distant quest
On the route to the ocean past the marshes and the estuaries now
*Chorus
Dm7The problem with rivers we can’t C see where they go Bb
Dm7And where they come from, we’ll C just never know Bb
Dm7They go round the bend C Bb – and they’re Dm7gone now C Dm7
I went down to the river to see how it flowed
Was it coursing its route, traveling fast or slow
To nourish the land or carry it away
Eroding the banks, sometimes filling the wells
Dipping and dancing and rising in swells
Rivers can be heaven or they can be hell – you just can’t tell
*Chorus
The problem with rivers we can’t see where they go
And where they come from, we’ll just never know
They go round the bend – and they’re gone now
Sometimes a drought and sometimes a flood
Sometimes it’s so clear and sometimes just mud
And sometimes it’s a mirror so we can see ourselves in there
Our lives are like rivers, they flow every which way
And though my words fail me I’ve got something to say
Just listen to the river and its tributaries now
*Chorus
The problem with rivers we can’t see where they go
And where they come from, we’ll just never know
They go round the bend – and they’re gone now

This is my favorite of your Hot Springs songs. This has become my favorite book now...loved reading the story, viewing the wonderful art, hearing the lapping wataer and music, learning about hot springs and other places. THANKS for sharing your life experiences and creativity.
