City of Bath Websites
Official City of Bath Website
This is the city’s official site. Although perhaps not cutting edge design, the site is extremely comprehensive and has something for everyone, particularly tourists. The maps are perhaps the most useful feature, although you’ve also got events, lists of attractions, accommodations (for students, property buyers, pub crawlers, and more) – in other words, everything you might expect to find on such a site.
The Official Roman Baths Museum Web Site in the City of Bath
The Roman Baths in Bath are a World Heritage Site and this website takes you through them in all kinds of detail in all kinds of languages. You get cutouts of the floors of the current site, and a very cool visual and written history of this exquisitely preserved patch of history as well as a list of activities and there’s stuff for kids as well as grownups. The Roman Baths are spectacular and this website, I believe, does them justice.
Thermae Bath Spa
The Thermae Bath Spa has been a bit of a boondoggle. It’s been “Opening Soon” for more years that most people would like and the project has fallen waaaay behind because of the bad paint choices and the disturbing rumor that the spring water carries some kind of nasty bacteria. The facilities, from what I can gather, are spectaculor, and I hope things work out soon. Keep clicking to watch the progress.
Photos of Bath, UK by Dan Karran
Dan Karran is only 23 years but his photos of Bath (and the baths in particular) display a mature eye. I love how he’s captured the steam rising off the heated water. Look at them and suddenly you’re back centuries. You can also see hundreds of other photos of England on Dan’s site.
The University of Bath Homepage
For the more academically minded and for those interested in finding out about Bath as a modern, vibrant community. Check out the Community Pages, Campus, and Press Releases for an insider’s peek at what’s happening.
Bath Abbey
Although this site is for worshippers, students, and parish members, the About the Abbey page appealed most to me. The Abbey is one handsome structure, especially when seen from the air. This massive structure dates back to 757 and has gone through at least three transformations to reach its present state.
Bed and Breakfasts in Bath
I’ve never stayed in any of the places listed here but it does offer visitors an excellent selection in an easily navigable manner. I like that prices are displayed (although I’m always wary of the word “from” when it precedes a price. The Links Page also has a lot of useful information.
I looked into the mirror to see what I could see
And there I saw a face, it was staring back at me
I looked into the mirror, I looked into the glass
And there I saw my future, and there I saw my past
Oh, oh, what do you know
Oh, oh, the mirror says it's so
There are some things that are constant, but there's some things always change
If you stare into the mirror, yes the things you see are strange
I look at through the window, I look at out the lake
And I look out for what's true, and I look out for what's fake
As I stared out at the pond, as the skies they threatened rain
There's some things always different, and there's some things never change
As you look into the mirror can you tell me what you see?
Can you understand what's vital, and just what it means to be?
